Learning Outcome 7.01
The history, scope, and techniques used in the Recreation field.
The Biographical Sketch assignment is one of the first assignments in the Recreation Major. The purpose of this assignment is to introduce students to the history of the field, and to familiarize students a few notable names in Recreation. I focused on Willi Unsoeld when I completed this assignment, but learned much more about other important historical figures during the presentations of our specific individuals. The button below is linked to the Power Point Presentation that I gave on Willi Unsoeld.
I firmly believe that recreation is for everyone and will do everything I can to ensure that. The Inclusive Recreation class helped me to learn more about how to be inclusive, and helped me to become a better individual. The Inclusive Recreation class introduces a variety of techniques and methods to make events and programs inclusive for all individuals who wish to recreate. The button labeled "Inclusive Recreation Reflection" gives insight into my unique experiences with the class, and all the valuable information that I took from it.
Recreational areas and facilities are an essential part of recreating. Without a proper area to recreate, it becomes much harder to enjoy these necessary leisure activities. In the 'Recreational Areas and Facilities' Class, students are split into small teams, and assigned a facility to form a comprehensive facility plan for. The first step in any facility improvement is to recognize areas of need based off a variety of components. These components can be viewed once I complete the course by clicking the button that says "Aquatic Center Needs Assessment," which was my teams facility of focus.
Needs assessments tell a programmer a lot about what kind of program they should offer. Below you will find an example of a needs assessment that me and a team of three others developed for a nine week long summer camp program. The objective of this assignment was to create a summer camp program for an area of our choosing, and formulate a proposal for this summer camp. In the document there is demographic information, area information, and much more, all necessary to creating a satisfactory summer camp program.
Ohio University does an excellent job preparing students for life after college. Part of that preparation involves mock interviews to help students hone their interviewing skills. After completing an interview with the career development center, feedback on resumes, cover letters, and actual interview skills are provided for the students so that they can enhance their abilities. These interviews provide an authentic experience, and are a great resource to have.
